Certified intumescent coating application for structural steel. Protecting buildings to BS 476 Part 21 and BS EN 13381-8 with 30, 60, 90, and 120 minute fire ratings.
What is Intumescent Coating?
Intumescent coatings are specialist fire protection paints that expand when exposed to heat, forming an insulating char layer that protects structural steel from the effects of fire.
Without protection, structural steel loses its load-bearing capacity at temperatures above 550°C — which can be reached within minutes in a building fire. Intumescent coatings buy critical time for evacuation and fire service response.
The required thickness of the coating depends on two factors: the fire rating required (30, 60, 90, or 120 minutes) and the section factor (Hp/A) of each steel member. We calculate both from the structural drawings and fire engineering report.

From Survey to Certification
Survey & Assessment
Free site survey. We review structural drawings, calculate section factors (Hp/A), and determine the required DFT for each member.
Quotation & Specification
Detailed quotation with steel schedule, DFT schedule, coating system specification, programme, and full cost breakdown.
Surface Preparation
All steel cleaned, degreased, and prepared to the required standard. Existing coatings assessed and treated as necessary.
Primer Application
Compatible primer applied to ensure adhesion and corrosion protection beneath the intumescent coating.
Intumescent Application
Intumescent coating applied by airless spray to achieve the specified DFT. Multiple coats as required by the fire rating.
DFT Testing & Certification
Independent DFT readings taken across all members. Fire test certificates, batch certificates, and certificate of conformity issued.
